Jane Kircher: Fused Glass

Jane transfers strong design skills and a passion for light into unique, evocative and often surprising fused and slumped glass pieces.  Light, by its nature, inspires and reveals.  Her series of window hangings play with the concept of “light chimes”.  Is sound not simply a different harmonic of the visual range?   Instead of wind and sound, these chimes transfer light and colors that will never fade.  Place them in brilliant sunlight or in a window.  Jane also creates slumped votive candle holders or vases for precious mementos or ceremonial objects.

Light chimes can be viewed from any direction… Jane’s idea of fun is to bend light through intimate glass pieces.  Her experimentally crafted works consist of scrap glass, found objects, beads, prisms and wire.  Some are fused multiple times as she integrates pottery shards, rocks, marbles, beads and crystals, nuts and bolts into surprising mixtures filled with contrast and tension: metal, glass and stone working together!  Her windows overlook the San Luis Valley with a view to Sacred Mount Blanca.  Glasswork happens, as their busy studio allows, on the  second floor of the building she shares with husband Lynn.
Jane primarily exhibits during the annual Rio Costilla Studio Tour.  This event is held annually the weekend after Labor Day.   See www.riocostillaart.com. You may contact Jane or Lynn at kircher@gojade.org
